This is turning out to be an unprecedented year for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)! Apple, Inc. selected TMCF to identify, develop and harness talent from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), as a means of addressing Silicon Valley’s diversity issues. While this is exciting news for HBCU students, our partnership with Apple is very targeted – primarily focused on the technology fields. Indeed, TMCF continues to engage all of the nearly 300,000 students on our 47 member-school campuses, regardless of academic major.
Our impact across all of our programs is garnering for TMCF a reputation as “the solutions organization.” For the 2014-15 academic year alone, TMCF awarded close to 400 scholarships to help high-achieving students afford the cost of college and avoid student loans – positioning them for future success in their careers and financial stability to support homeownership, retirement and future family education. Just this one program leads to a college graduation rate of 97% for TMCF scholarship recipients - versus a national rate of 21%. For every student that TMCF helps, there are others that we cannot assist due to our limited financial resources.
Each year, TMCF holds its annual Awards Gala as the culmination of our annual Leadership Institute – another successful program in which we train today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders. Our annual Awards Gala is TMCF’s largest event of the year, supporting our solutions-based programs beyond our partnership with Apple, allowing us to impact even more students. TMCF is extremely proud to support our star students, who also will be attending the Gala.
Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC this November!
